About
I am a Senior Research Engineer at Symantec Research Labs. My research interests are in fault-tolerant distributed systems. I equally enjoy building dependable systems firsthand and studying empirically the behavior of systems large and small.
I currently focus on defining a rigorous benchmark for computer security research, using comprehensive field data. Researchers in academia are able to access this data at Symantec Research Labs, through the Worldwide Intelligence Network Environment (WINE).
I previously worked on improving the dependability of embedded systems (addressing soft errors in networks-on-chip), of enterprise systems (addressing the predictability of fault-tolerant middleware) and of large-scale distributed systems (addressing operator errors during software upgrades). My doctoral dissertation identified the leading causes of both planned and unplanned downtime due to upgrades in large distributed systems. I proposed novel solutions for mitigating this downtime, and I defined a benchmark for the dependability of upgrading approaches.
