Thesis Title: Risk Assessment for CO2 Geological Sequestration
About
My research project is about risk analysis for carbon dioxide underground storage system under uncertainty. We develop mathematical models for the sequestration system to evaluation the performance of this system over long time scale. Because of a lot of uncertainties associated with the parameters that are used to describe the model, risk assessment is carried out to quantify the impact of these uncertainties. Monte Carlo simulations are used in the context of probabilistic risk assessment.
Another issue here is that it is challenging as Monte Carlo simulations are computationally demanding due to the large number of required iterations to produce a statistical representation of the output. So we also consider using Graphics Processing Unit to parallelize the application of Monte Carlo simulations.
